Christina was born with Spina Bifida, curvature of the spine and was a fetal alcohol baby. She was found lying next to her mother’s dead body after the mother had over dosed. Luckily there are people like Betty who took her in, adopted Christina and loved her as much as her own two children.
In the past, Christina had to hold on to furniture to move around the house and Betty had to strain to help lift her in the shower and down the steps out front.
Christina’s room has been transformed into a cheery space which allows her to move around while in her wheelchair. Bright happy colors, butterflies on the wall, and a desk where she can do her hair and homework now fill her room. Her bathroom received a much needed makeover as well. After widening the doors and installing an ADA accessible shower, Christina no longer depends on help. With the changes made inside the house and a new ramp outside, Christina has become much more independent.
A constant smile and a giggle you will never forget definitely define Christina much more than her disabilities.
